Daffodils represent rebirth, hope, a new beginning. In Japan, it is the official flower of the New Year because it represents good things coming. In the U.S., the daffodil is the official flower of the American Cancer Association, symbolizing hope for a cure. 
 
In my horizontal paintings like this, I try to give the feeling of being completely surrounded by the subject.  To be surrounded / engulfed by flowers, trees, butterflies, the ocean brings a safe and complete feeling to me.
